The SHK student articling program
The SHK summer and articling student programs reflect our pragmatic approach to the practice of law. Our goal is to provide a practical experience that teaches our students how to become great lawyers.
Our students work closely with both junior and experienced senior counsel on construction, insurance, civil, commercial and corporate matters. We have no formal rotation system, and students are encouraged to seek out work that interests them. Our articled students enjoy exciting hands-on opportunities and are given considerable responsibility on files, conducting research, preparing opinions, drafting court documents, attending hearings, mediation, examinations for discovery and client meetings. Whenever possible, students are given the opportunity to appear in Civil Chambers and in trial or administrative hearings, both on their own as well as in the capacity of a junior.
When filling student positions, SHK looks for well-rounded individuals with a strong academic record and a solid work ethic. We see our students as an investment in our firm’s future and we are looking for individuals whose personal qualities will foster a strong working relationship with counsel.
Our articling salaries are on par with other downtown law firms. SHK pays each student’s tuition fee for the Professional Legal Training Course and salary during PLTC, as well as the Law Society call and admission fees.
If you share our commitment to excellence in the practice of law and wish to apply to article at SHK Law, please email your resume, cover letter, undergraduate & law school transcripts, list of upper year courses, and reference letters (optional) to Vanessa L. Reakes at firstname.lastname@example.org.
