Chris Bakker has been with SHK since 2010 and completed his articles at the firm. He is a litigation lawyer with experience in commercial, construction, insurance and aviation matters. Chris provides legal counsel to contractors, engineers, architects and insurance agents on matters including contract drafting, contract interpretation, mediation and cost-effective alternate dispute resolution.
Prior to becoming a lawyer, Chris co-founded Canadian Air Charters, a 703 air taxi operation carrying passengers and cargo within the Province of British Columbia and as far east as Ontario. As well as serving as pilot, Chris worked within Transport Canada’s regulatory framework to ensure flight, cabin, maintenance and training compliance as well as passenger and crew safety.
In 2015, Chris was honoured to accept appointments to both the Environmental Advisory Committee (EAC) for Vancouver International Airport and the Advisory Committee on the Environment (ACE) for Richmond City Council. EAC provides input and suggestions on the Airport Authority’s environmental practices and programs. ACE is a community-based advisory committee with a mandate to ensure that Richmond’s environmental concerns and sustainability are anticipated and addressed.
