Michael D. Williams

Michael joined SHK as an associate in 2016 after articling with the firm. He is a litigation lawyer with a focus on commercial, construction and employment disputes. Michael provides legal counsel to contractors, developers, architects and property owners on a breadth of issues.

Michael obtained a Bachelor of Commerce with high honours from the Sprott School of Business at Carleton University in Ottawa.  Following his undergraduate degree, Michael attended law school at the University of Victoria where he concentrated on corporate, commercial and debt-related courses.

Prior to becoming a lawyer, Michael gained a considerable amount of experience in the construction industry, working for both contractors and sub trades as well as a leading innovator of new construction technologies.

While attending law school, Michael was Vice President of the Law Students’ Society, the representative body of law students responsible for overseeing the LSS budget, funding, social events and a wide variety of clubs and societies.  He gained solicitor experience as a member of the Business Law Clinic group that offers legal information to small businesses and non-profits on matters such as incorporation, financing, charitable registration and more.  In his third year, Michael was also awarded the Murray Fraser Award for his outstanding contribution to life at the law school during his final year.

Michael is an avid guitar player, sailor and skier.
